Jesus was the ultimate leader. Sometimes, leading equals struggling. Here are some of the not-so-pleasant aspects of leadership.
1. Jesus led through conspiracy. Mathew 27:1 “Early in the morning, all the chief priests and the elders of the people made their plans how to have Jesus executed.” It’s no fun when you as a leader, suddenly realize that the same ones who you are trying to lead, are conspiring against you. Jesus didn’t try to find out who they were. Jesus didn’t give up because of what they did. For him, purpose fulfillment had a greater value than popularity and positive perception. Lead in spite of the haters.
2. Jesus led through pain. 27:26 “…But he had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified.” We want to avoid pain at all costs. That’s human. But sometimes, pain is the price of leadership. That might be you right now. Don’t run from it. Lead through it.
3. Jesus led through unfairness. 27:12 “When he was accused by the chief priests and the elders, he gave no answer. 13 Then Pilate asked him, “Don’t you hear the testimony they are bringing against you?” 14 But Jesus made no reply, not even to a single charge—to the great amazement of the governor.” One of the most practical counsel I received, was given to me by Jose Vicente Rojas . He told me: “Don’t defend yourself”. Truth will always win out. It may take a while, but unfairness will be eventually exposed. Lead through it.
Conclusion. It may be painful, but it’s worth it. Lead through whatever you are going through today.
