Lead- Integrity

Devotional for today.  Mathew 22- A Person of Integrity.

Even Jesus’ enemies were aware of his character. Here are three characteristics that would be valuable for us to have. They are all found in one verse-

Mathew 22:16 They sent their disciples to him along with the Herodians. “Teacher,” they said, “we know that you are a man of integrity and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are. :”

1. Character counts- “We know you are a man of integrity” Even though the conversation with the Pharisees started as a way of trying to trick Jesus, they did get it right in what they said about Him. People may or may not like you, but is your integrity evident? They may have issues with your positions, but never with your character!

2. Truth triumphs- “you teach the way of God in accordance to the truth” Truth, for the postmodern generation, has been reduced to “whatever works for you”.  There is, however, universal and unchanging truth, found in scripture. Once again, people can disagree with your points of view, but do they hear TRUTH coming from your lips? The truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth? Not only do they hear truth, but do they see truth in your actions?

3. Principle driven life- “You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are”. We are not politicians. We are Christians. We don’t get to flip/flop on issues, or make our decisions based on polls, or what is popular right now. The problem with relying on the opinions of others to make decisions is that they are always changing their minds! Don’t do what is politically expedient. Do what is right. Biblically right.

What do we learn- Character counts. Speak truth. Be driven by principle not opinions.
