Devotional for today- The Devil’s Rabbits
Mark 13
The devil does not want us to be focused on the return of Jesus. For that he uses three strategies. As you look forward to his return, avoid the following:
1. Focused on signs instead of the Savior- 13:5 Jesus replied, “Don’t let anyone mislead you, 6 for many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah.’[a] They will deceive many. 7 And you will hear of wars and threats of wars, but don’t panic. Yes, these things must take place, but the end won’t follow immediately. 8 Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in many parts of the world, as well as famines. But this is only the first of the birth pains, with more to come.” Some people read the Bible with one hand and have the newspaper in another, while watching CNN or FOX NEWS. If your focus is on the signs you might be confused or discouraged, you maybe even panic. If your focus is on the Savior, you will be alright.
2. Quitting instead if persisting. 13:12 “A brother will betray his brother to death, a father will betray his own child, and children will rebel against their parents and cause them to be killed. 13 And everyone will hate you because you are my followers. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.” Working for God is awesome. Working for God with other people, NOT SO MUCH! People will make you want to quit. They don’t thank you, they rebel against you, betray you, or might even want to kill you. Don’t quit. Ministry is messy. You work for God. Don’t let other people’s behavior determine your effort.
3. Being distracted instead of staying focused. 13:32 “However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows. 33 And since you don’t know when that time will come, be on guard! Stay alert!” The devil doesn’t mind you being busy, as long as you are chasing his rabbits all over the place. You have a purpose. That’s the reason God made you. Don’t fall asleep. Don’t get distracted. Don’t get busy doing the wrong thing. Stay alert!
Conclusion-Stay on task. Jesus is coming.
